Corporate Experience 2009-Chicago

12/18/2009

On Thursday, December 10, 2009, the Corporate Experience class members visited Evergreen Bank Group in Oak Brook, Illinois. Mr. Darin Campbell, President and CEO of Evergreen Bank Group, greeted us with a friendly welcome, breakfast, and introduced us to the bank. As an alumnus, Mr. Campbell told us about his experiences at Culver-Stockton and how the college had helped him build his career. Mr. Paul Leake, Executive Vice President, was also an alumnus of Culver-Stockton, and he shared his story as well. We then took a tour and got to see how a community bank’s atmosphere is customer-friendly as well as comfortable. The bank was beautifully crafted and offered great service. After the tour, we learned about banking and the different branches of the bank. Mr. Leake helped us learn more about consumer lending, while other speakers talked about commercial lending, accounting, operations, and advice to college students. The information presented was very helpful, and we were able to ask many questions that we had about banking. Visiting the bank was a great way to gain more knowledge about the industry. We had the opportunity to meet Culver-Stockton alumni, who were so very successful, and the advice they gave to us was phenomenal. The trip to Evergreen Bank Group was a great opportunity, and an experience I will never forget.
Later that night, we ate dinner as a group at the Cheesecake Factory, and despite the frigid winds, we went shopping at the Oak Brook Center, an outdoor mall. The snow and Christmas lights lit up the mall and the night was beautiful. After we were done shopping, we went back to our hotel and rested up for the next exciting day.
